From the Times-News:
Celeste Robinson continued her early season scoring binge by completing an impressive hat trick Monday night.
For the third straight game, the Jim Thorpe 5-8 junior guard racked up 30 points.
Against Panther Valley, Robinson’s most remarkable feat may have been hanging around long enough to seal the deal.
Saddled with her third foul with 10.5 seconds left in the first quarter, Robinson sat out all but 22 seconds of the second and had just two points as the Lady Olympians held a slim 15-11 edge at half.
The second half was a different matter, however.
Robinson poured in 22 points to key a 28-2 third quarter explosion as Thorpe ran away from the Lady Panthers for a 54-18 win in the Schuylkill League Division I opener for both teams.

From the Times-News:
In the first half of last night’s non-league girls’ basketball match-up, Jim Thorpe utilized an impressive full-court press to eventually wear down visiting Weatherly en route to a 56-34 win.
“That’s our identity with the press,” Jim Thorpe head coach Rob Kovac mentioned. “With Celeste (Robinson) there at the point of that press, she’s pretty tough. But it’s the other girls that have a huge part of the press working in (Nina) Batts, (Kristin) Lawrence and (Jeanna) McElmoyle. A lot of havoc is created by those three.”
The pressure eventually did lead to the downfall of the Lady Wreckers, who are heavily-laden with guards throughout their line-up. In the first half, it caused 19 turnovers, which eventually led to easy points for the Lady Olympians.
In the first quarter, Jim Thorpe raced out to a 10-2 lead, only to see Weatherly storm back to trail 10-9. However, the Jim Thorpe press went to work again and gave way to another run, as the Lady Olympians closed out the quarter with a 9-0 spree.

From the Times-News:
On the first night of a new basketball season, there are normally plenty of unexpected aspects of the game. In last night’s initial outing for Northwestern and Jim Thorpe’s girls’ squads, it was those unexpected elements that pleased both coaches as the Lady Olympians pulled out a 46-39 non-league win.
Olympian head coach Rob Kovac was happy with his team’s efforts to come back from an early deficit and hang on down the stretch, after being challenged late.

From the Times-News:
The Jim Thorpe girls basketball team is not lacking for small, quick players.
With that in mind, it’s rather fitting what the Olympians expectations are this season.
“We’re very small,” said head coach Rob Kovac. “We’re really looking at playing four guards most of the time with only one post player. Our first couple kids off the bench are guards as well, so our expectations will be guarded … literally.”
Heading the list of those guards is junior Celeste Robinson, the team’s leading scorer a year ago with a 12.6 points per game average.
