From the Standard-Speaker: Jim Thorpe, in front of a packed house on its east side, got to play at its pace and put on a show in a much anticipated bout against Panther Valley. The Olympians used a second half burst and outlasted the Panthers 65-51 in a key Schuylkill League Division I contest Friday night. Read the full story here.

JIM THORPE – Rashid Epps scored 18 points while Sam Lux added 17 as the Olympians remained tied atop the Division I standings with a win over the Eagles.

Lux scored six of his points in the second quarter as Jim Thorpe used a 23-8 run to take a 37-17 halftime lead. Corey Cinicola added 12 points for the Olympians.

Jake Cryts led Blue Mountain with 18 points while Matt Maloney added 12.

Bobby Hahn scored 18 of his game-high 23 points in the second half as Northern Lehigh handed Jim Thorpe its first loss of the season, 75-62 to win the championship of the Slatington Rotary Tournament on Tuesday night.

Corey Cinicola led the Olympians with 17 points, while Sam Lux and Rashid Epps each tallied 16.

Palmerton defeated Lehighton 69-63 to win the consolation game.

The Jim Thorpe Olympian boys basketball team beat Tamaqua 67-48 in the Dec. 18, 2009  Friday night contest at home. High scorers were Cinicola with 25 total points, two three-pointers; DiBonifazio with 12 points and three three-pointers; Lux with 15; Epps with 11 and Johnson with 4.  In the picture above, fans cheer on Dean DiBonifazio. It was nice to see all the alumni come and support the team.

Thorpe beat Marian 54-49 in the Panther Valley Tip-Off Tournament Friday Dec. 11, 2009 in Lansford. The Olympians will play to defend its Tip-Off championship title tonight against Mahanoy Area. The consolation game is PV v Marian at 6 p.m.

DXI AAA SEMI-FINALS TUESDAY!!!!!

The Olympians will play in the District XI AAA semifinals 7pm Tuesday at Tamaqua. Their opponent will be the Pottsville Crimson Tide. Jim Thorpe defeated Pottsville in both regular season meetings this year. Much more will be at stake this time around. The winner of the game will not only get a spot in the District XI AAA finals but will also receive a birth in the PIAA state playoffs. Come out to support the Olympians. Advance tickets are available in the HS office ($3 student and $5 adult).

Varsity Cheerleader The Jim Thorpe boys basketball team beat Northern Lehigh in a nail-biter District XI AAA quarterfinal game last night at Tamaqua. Read about the game here from the Morning Call.

District XI Playoffs Friday

The 4th seeded Olympians will play 5th seed Northern Lehigh 7pm Friday at Tamaqua in the first round of District XI AAA playoffs. Thorpe has split a pair of games against the Bulldogs this season. Olympians fall short in Schuylkill League playoffs

DSC_0003wm The Olympians started slowly against Williams Valley and couldnt recover despite a furious 4th quarter rally. The Olympians cut the Viking lead to 2 points with under a minute remaining but that was as close as they would get. Williams Valley went on to win 83-79. JT missed many opportunities shsooting only 10-27 from the free throw line in the game. SCHUYLKILL LEAGUE PLAYOFFS

The Olympians will participate in the Schuylkill League playoffs in 2009 for the first time since 1986. The game will be played 6pm on Wednesday February 11th at Martz Hall in Pottsville (Martz Hall is located at the corner of 16th St & Laurel Blvd in P0ttsville). Thorpe will play the Williams Valley Vikings. The Vikings enter the game with a 21-1 record and a 21 game win streak. WV lost their 1st game of the year in double overtime. JT looks to avenge a loss to the Vikings earlier this.  season at WV. A game the Olympians led at the half. Please come out to support the Olympians in this historic game. Advance tickets are available in the HS office.
